Due to an imminent severe weather event associated with Cyclone Jasper, expected to generate strong winds and heavy rainfall, Low Isles (15km north-east of Port Douglas) is closed until further notice for the safety of visitors. The closure includes both Low Island and Woody Island and will be in place until declared safe. Please observe all signage, barriers and directions from authorities and do not enter closed areas. We apologise for any inconvenience. 

The Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area encompasses around 1050 islands, including 70 Commonwealth islands (21 of which are managed by the Reef Authority through the Reef Joint Field Management Program) and 980 Queensland islands. This closure is consistent with the island national parks closures in North Queensland as mandated by the Department of Environment and Science.
